Basically, as soon as cameras were invented, so propaganda appeared now also in images not just print. It has always been this way. Fake News was always fake news and almost all news and almost all history is fake. You really need to dig quite a bit more to have any hope of finding the truth about much of anything that you were not directly a witness of.
Certainly every single story that appeared in various newspapers around the world, where I had any direct knowledge of the events being described, bore very little relation to the actual facts and often was a direct inversion or absolute twisting of the events.
