The Implications of Life on Mars

As readers of AA&ES [Ed note: Quest magazine’s old name] will know, there has been quite a controversy raging recently about the Face and Pyramids of Mars. In fact the word ‘recently’ is a misnomer, because The Face and City have been a bit of a thorn in the side of certain people for some 20 years now.

I have been involved in researching this general topic for about five years, and one of the issues which concerns me most about this whole ‘Face thing’, is that normally people seem to miss the point. The important point that is, one which has nothing to do with pyramids, aliens (being autopsied or otherwise), religious belief systems which will need restructuring or little green men. The important point you see, is technology —  the technology related to the Face and City, and its implications for us here on Earth. As I hope to show in this and the next edition’s article, these ‘anomalies’ on Mars have implications for us here on Earth that are meaningful enough to make (if you could get him to listen) even the dullest, numbest, retrograde drop-out, jump up, take notice, put on a suit and tie and run out there into the big bright world in order to make it take notice of certain pertinent facts.

A big claim you might think, and I would be the first to agree, but before making your mind up one way or the other, I would ask one thing of you: read this information, checking my facts. After all, maybe I’m just another hyped journo on a mission, right?

The space I have been granted will not permit me to give as complete a list of references as I would like, but in this regard, as I did in the supplement of issue 11, I refer you to my book, where I have been as particular as possible in terms of providing names of persons, books and journals used whenever presenting factual information.

The Face has been analysed independently and in different ways, by several persons, all of them professional people. Most relevant amongst them are Dr. Mark Carlotto, Vincent DiPietro and Gregory Molenaar.

DiPietro and Molenaar where the first to work on the Face and are also the discoverers of the second picture of the Face that was in the NASA picture archives (misfiled) which, now that two perspectives were available, allowed people like Carlotto to produce 3D models of the Face. In addition, they developed the SPIT (Starburst Pixel Interpolation Technique) imaging algorithm, which allowed unprecedented clarity in the Viking images. When viewed through the SPIT process, the Face shows an eyeball in the more clearly visible left eye socket and what appear to be teeth in the mouth. It is important to stress that the computer enhanced imaging algorithms used by all the investigators I talk about are merely data analysis tools that reinterpret the existing information in picture format. No information is added, no one goes in with a surreptitious mouse movement to airbrush a quick nose job on the Face. The techniques merely remove noise and sharpen the picture by enhancing the light contrast.

Exactly the same methods are used in trying to identify criminals on poor quality video tapes from crime scenes, and surely, the police do not ‘add’ any information either. These algorithms are used precisely because (weird as it sounds) they give a better quality picture than the original, so, if they seem to show a humanoid face structure on Mars, complete with eyes and teeth, more likely than not, that is what is there.

Carlotto similarly analysed the Face by several methods, all of them consistently produced an image that more than anything resembled a human-like face and the nearby buildings similarly have a tendency to look artificial in nature.

Additionally, Carlotto constructed a three-dimensional computer model of the Face using a shape-from shading algorithm, and this, along with his even more recent work (some of which can be seen on the World Wide Web: do a search for Face on Mars, Carlotto’s stuff will come up eventually) proved an important point. The Face retains its characteristic shape in three dimensions. Natural rock formations that resemble well known objects (there is at least one in Cape Town that resembles an old man and another Face on a cliff in the Baviaanskloof mountains in Southern Africa) do not retain their resemblances once the viewing angle is changed.

And obviously, something that looks like a Face when viewed from any angle cannot be ‘a trick of the light’ either, as NASA would have us believe.

Lastly, Carlotto analysed the whole Cydonia region fractally, using a technique employed by the military to find artificial structures in spy satellite images. The computer algorithm searches for non-fractal shapes in the picture and highlights them. Since artificial objects, unlike natural ones, are non-fractal in nature this is useful for finding camouflaged military installations, tanks, or indeed any other artificial object in a satellite picture. The program picked out the Face and City of pyramids as being artificial in nature. So now we have a considerable amount of analysis stacking up, with all of it pointing in the same direction, namely the direction that says: The Face on Mars is an artificial construct.

We are not here to argue about belief systems, please bear that in mind. We are here to analyse what’s there, so pleasant or unpleasant as it may be, let’s just do that and nothing else. If all indications seem to be that the Face might actually be a building, then if we are honest scientists and seekers of truth, we should at least allow that this may in fact be the case.

Logically then, the next step, based on the premise that the Face was actually built, would be to see if Mars could at any time have supported the kind of life that would construct such things. Guess what kind of life that would be. I’ll give you a hint…it builds pyramid-like buildings and has a human-like face.

Since Mars most definitely had rivers (and large ones at that) and enough water to create flood channels that dwarf the largest rivers, or indeed the largest flood flows that we have here on Earth, and since currently water would evaporate explosively on Mars due to its very low atmospheric pressure, it does not take a genius to figure out that Mars must have had a much denser atmosphere at some point in the past. Such indeed is the theory amongst mainstream planetary astronomers. Obviously for water to flow and create river channels it must be above freezing point, and so the temperature range would have been suitable for human habitation if the atmosphere was breathable. The Viking soil analysis tests indicated that nitrogen and oxygen could indeed have been the components of this ancient atmosphere, and certainly a lot of oxygen remains trapped on Mars even today in the soil, giving it its characteristic red colour. A magnetosphere (necessary to shield life from cosmic radiation) could also have been present prior to the bombardment the planet suffered from large asteroids, after all, if you take a hammer to a magnet it looses its magnetism, and Mars was most definitely ‘hammered’.

So, it would appear that Mars could at one point harbour humanoids that built the Cydonia features. If this is the case, I think you’ll agree that the implications are rather large.

Again it does not take a genius to figure out that there must be a connection between the Martian and Earth pyramids, and like I have said before, once you look in some detail at the large pyramids on Earth (the Great Pyramid in Egypt, some of the South American ones and the huge Chinese one) you begin to get an eerie feeling down your spine.

The Great Pyramid you see, cannot be built using present day technology. This is not an opinion, it is an engineering fact. Nor can we lift 1100 ton blocks of stone as was done at Baalbek to build a ‘pagan temple’, since the most we can lift in terms of monolithic blocks is about 200 tons. The Great Pyramid also incorporates 70 ton blocks of granite mined 640 kms away and placed in positions that would be inaccessible by present day cranes. How the ancient Egyptians were supposed to have done it is not (I repeat, NOT) explained by any current Egyptologist, which makes one wonder what the whole of Egyptology amounts to, when it cannot (refuses) to answer the basic engineering questions that threaten their carefully constructed house of cards.

So where does this leave us? With Martian ancestors that as ‘Gods’ came down to Earth to build the inexplicable ancient structures that scatter the globe? If so why is Mars dead now? Why did these ‘Gods’ die out? And what would become of our most cherished belief systems?

These questions are important in themselves, but although I do attempt to answer them as best as the evidence allows (not here…buy the book damn it!) the really important thing that eventually becomes obvious is that if Martians did exist, they must have done so between about 400,000 years and 30,000 years ago, when Neanderthal man was running around on Earth, and since the chances of two humanoid life forms evolving separately on two planets of the same Solar System are about as next to nil as you can come, only one conclusion is left. Someone somewhere along the line terraformed either Mars or Earth, or both.

Even more implications, even more controversy. The idea that we may be nothing more than the genetic experiment of some Ancient extraterrestrial race disturbs many people, but if the Face on Mars is artificial then genetic manipulation of humans is a given to some extent or other, simply because those ‘Gods’, had to breathe something when they eventually came to Earth after destroying Mars and that was the same stuff we breathe today, hence it must have been the same stuff they had on Mars, which again implies terraforming (yes I am saying they did destroy it, it wasn’t an accident, no I am not crazy thank you, yes I do have evidence, but that’s next month’s article). Contrary to popular belief terraforming involves not only the altering of a planet’s ecosystems, but also, the very shaping (through genetic engineering) of the life-forms that will live on it, which includes us humans. But that is still not the technology I am talking about, the technology I refer to as being the most important point of the whole Face on Mars controversy is antigravity, and to see where I get that from and what I’m on about, you’ll have to wait for the next issue!
